Walking the Talk

Like those sports people with their medals and mountain climbers with their avalanche tales you know from his face that Tom has put the rock’n’roll hours in. This is a story of late-night risks and glamorous disasters. Not just thinking out the box but BEING out the box.

There’s only ONE Tom Morley

Do you want your people to be more creative and more productive? Here’s a simple idea that doesn’t involve studying the 7 habits of highly successful millionaires. Use the other hand. That’s it, use the other hand when drinking, opening doors and brushing your teeth. Every drummer practices this discipline to become ambidextrous. Not only does it mean you learn to do two things at once it develops new neural pathways in the brain. There’s a science to it, and it’s fun making toasts in the bar afterwards.

Humour connects people faster than anything. As his first line you might hear Tom say, “Is anyone else having a bad hair day?” He’s a living example of owning the stage without everything having to be perfect, it’s part of the show in fact.

If there was one word to sum up Tom’s personal mission it’s CONNECTION. Inner connection, realising what drives and inhibits you, and outer connection, being able to read the situation and do the right thing. There’s some investigation of personal values here.

A few years ago a client said to Tom, “We’ve been talking in the bar and decided to call you the Vibe Navigator – that’s what you do”. What does it mean? Being sensitive to self, context and others and knowing how to lift things without making a fuss. It’s a transferable skill.

Innovation is something better ‘lived’ than set aside for a special time. Tom spent time with his grandmother as a child, hearing how inventive they were in the London Blitz. Art school, being on the road, you learn to serenade serendipity as a way of life, it’s in his blood.

Tom Morley is one of the most inspirational creatives I have ever worked with. His ideas spill out of him and the ability to make them happen comes straight afterwards. He is refreshing to listen to, is committed to his values and leaves the listener thinking "why not?" His drumming is pretty good too and he gets a party going like no other I know.

When you bring large numbers of people together, their first instinct is often to determine and demonstrate where they sit in the hierarchy. Tom’s ability to completely negate that hierarchy, in favour of unearthing the much more important red thread that binds a team together around an idea or an opportunity, is exceptional. He manages to tune in to and capture a resonance that everyone embraces, leaving people feeling not only personally inspired and motivated, but having formed what are likely to be long-term relationships with others with whom they may never before have passed the time of day.

I'm convinced that what our team experienced thanks to Tom's unique ability to engage every crowd on our Roadshow has been instrumental in our improved performance at HERTZ.
He created magical experiences with incredible energy, the team went way beyond their normal boundaries to genuinely care for each other, feeling strong, united, inspired and unbeatable.
